Calculator Accuracy

Our calculators use formulas based on published medical research:

  • The ADAG formula (eAG = 28.7 × A1C − 46.7) is based on the study by Nathan DM et al., "Translating the A1C assay into estimated average glucose values," published in Diabetes Care, 2008.
  • The IFCC/NGSP conversion formula is based on the master equation from the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) and the National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program (NGSP).
  • The diagnostic thresholds (Normal, Prediabetes, Diabetes) are based on the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes.

While these formulas are clinically validated, calculator results are estimates. Individual variation exists, and several conditions can affect the accuracy of A1C-based calculations, including anemia, hemoglobin variants, kidney disease, pregnancy, and recent blood loss or transfusion.

Not a Diagnostic Tool

The calculators on this website are not diagnostic tools. They cannot diagnose diabetes, prediabetes, or any other medical condition. Diagnosis of diabetes requires laboratory testing performed by qualified healthcare professionals, typically including at least two confirmatory tests on separate occasions.
